A...My Name is Alice auditions this Saturday
GSU students will have the chance to take to the stage this fall. Auditions for A... My Name is Alice will take place Saturday, September 7 from 4 to 5:30pm and 6 to 7:30pm. Students who are interested in auditioning for the production must reserve a timeslot on the audition timeslot sign up list, located outside of room E1541.
A...My Name is Alice is a musical show depicting women of all ages and different backgrounds in a variety of relationships and circumstances. Dr. Patrick Santoro, Assistant Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies and Production Director of A...My Name is Alice, is seeking men and women of all ages and backgrounds who have experience with singing, acting, and dancing. Santoro said that auditions are open not only to GSU students, "but also open to staff, faculty, and community members as well."
Those who are interested in auditioning for the play should be prepared to sing, either a cappella or to sheet music that they bring, 16 bars of a song. In addition, they should be prepared to deliver a one minute original or published monologue, and should also be prepared to move around.
A...My Name is Alice will enjoy a three night run at GSU's Center for Performing Arts (CPA) November 6 through 8. A...My Name is Alice is the second production to hit the stage as part of GSU's Theatre and Performance Studies (TAPS) program. Last spring, Santoro produced Transformations as the first student produced play of the TAPS program. Comprising an all-female cast, Transformations played to a full house both nights of its two night run last April 24 and 25 at GSU's Center for Performing Arts (CPA).
The TAPS program has grown at GSU since its inception in the Fall of 2012. A minor in TAPS was recently added to the university's course catalog. Santoro believes that the TAPS minor offers GSU student's a unique learning opportunity that they cannot find anywhere else.
"The TAPS minor offers students an opportunity to understand not only what happens on stage, in a theater, as performance, but also everyday life as a kind of performance. Students in TAPS learn how to creatively and critically investigate the identities of others as well as themselves. Students in TAPS learn not only of performance, but also through performance, taking a collaborative, hands-on approach to education. Students in TAPS are empowered to create change in the world. TAPS is a unique minor in the state of Illinois-and it's offered on our very own campus!" said Santoro.
